First Look: TOA HORDIKA NOKAMA

TOA HORDIKA NOKAMA, set #8737, does not differ much from TOA HORDIKA VAKAMA. She is blue where he is red. Her mask is a little different. Her tools are different. That pretty much sums it up.

But about those tools. Where VAKAMA has soft plastic translucent orange flames, NOKAMA’s tools have soft plastic silver “fin barbs”. Comparing my two sets, the soft plastic works much better with the translucent colors than with the silver. NOKAMA’s tools in particular have suffered a great deal of bubbling, which gives them a “used” look reminiscent of the GHOST CGI bump-mapping seen on mask images. I can’t decide if this is “really cool” or just the most aesthetically challenging LEGO piece I have ever seen. Functionally, NOKAMA’s tools are fine.

There is a promotional image of NOKAMA in the set instructions. I like to think of this one as “There’s No Place Like Home”.
