Toa MAHRI, Nuparu In Hand!

I think I’ll try experimenting with the format between these first glances, since they arent supposed to be considered a full review, and despite my best efforts I almost turned the Matoro Mahri’s into one.

His new form is rather impressive, and a pretty big turnaround from his Inika forms feel. His skull like mask and two part shield tie this creations imposing image together with his never before seen (in the BIONICLE® universe anyway) shoulder and upper leg parts, and lets not forget the piraka tool arm that this set features four of!

The ever versatile tube from the first two featured mahri are here, connecting from the right side of his mask into the back, which come to think I’ll need to double check and make sure I plugged it into the right spot…The mask has two spots to plug the rubber tubing into , one on the side of each cheek like apparatus. Unlike Matoro’s who’s only port is on the extra protrusion, the oversized one on this mask does not have a plug which would have been nice for other MoCs. yet again the visor is the same trans blue as the other mahri leaving me to hop this part will be available in other colors ill also have to point out the same eyes are in use, probably because th orange eyes are best used to pierce the trans blue visor. I know I’ve seen this mask on a prototype version of a titan set in (I think) Tahu red, while we dont get a black one, the silver does go with more custom creations, otherwise we mocers would be compelled to only use it on MoCs with black in them.

His new shield works splendidly with his cordak cannon and is composed of two pieces plugged into his “hand” stub. It’s not quite s big as Toa Lhikan’s own twin shield and it splits the other way. For this toa, is size and style are perfect. A little stud peg is placed on his shield arm and the two small peg holes nearby serve to hold the three extra rounds on this set, whilst they have been on the backs of the other two Mahri I have. the cordak cannon can be flipped into a sort of upside down holstered position, and easily flipped out for battle mode.

The proportions are about right and the new shoulder/leg armor help pull away that flat torso look, along with his leg connector being down one slot an not lighing up perfectly with the torso plate like it did in his Inika version. These armor plates come in two variations, one for left sides and the other for right sides. Since the parts arent symmetrical a mirrored piece was required to match the other, and while I love this new part, especially on Nuparu, it leaves a blank spot in the backside and makes his best viewing angles from the sides where the view of the armor is optimal I dont think these were on Nuparu when I saw the prototype but it’s a interesting surprise to see that would have had me anticipating him more had it been on him at the ToyFair preview.

On his back we find a sort of breathing tank that apears to attach to his maskand spreads out some of the silver that it rather dominated by the black colors, especialy from the back. I dont quite like the style of the tank but it does give me some ideas. It is held in place with a black friction plug, and the trans green tubes are atached to a couple stud plugs. One more stud plug right above the plug that holds the slver part of the tank seems to keep it from rotating off track, if it wasn’t there and you relied on the trans green parts to hold it in place (and it would too) they would pop off when you twisted the tank.

Hopefully I stayed more on a descriptive path than a reviewing path, feel free to ask questions or otherwise discuss the set by email or on the forums .
