BIONICLE: Mask Of Light Available Today In UK! Posted by Mark on September 29, 2003 at 09:10 AM CST:
Mike Edwards writes in with news about the release today of BIONICLE™: Mask Of Light in the United Kingdom for £15.99 on DVD. What is more, spend £15 or more in a Woolworths or "Woolworths big W" store and get a limited edition comic, a poisoned Hau Nuva, and one random small set. Forum Link
Market Watch: Return Of The LEGO Kiosks Posted by Mark on September 28, 2003 at 09:02 PM CST:
While looking for information about BIONICLE™ Halloween costumes (of which there is almost none to be found outside of Mask Of Destiny; <— search on "costume" over there), I noticed that the popular LEGO® Kiosks have returned to the LEGO Stores page of LEGO.com. "Check back later this year for new kiosk locations near you!" is all it has to say right now, but for those of us who have been wondering, it is good to know they will be back. Forum Link
Bricktalk: Furst Words Posted by Purple_Dave on September 27, 2003 at 01:44 PM CST:
Two weeks ago I had the wonderful opportunity to chat with Nathan Furst, composer for MASK OF LIGHT. Unfortunately, I've had very little free time since then in which to transcribe the phone interview, but it's done now.

BIONICLE: Mask Of Light Tops The Chart! Posted by Mark on September 25, 2003 at 10:26 PM CST: The Hollywood Reporter noted yesterday that "BIONICLE™: Mask Of Light topped VideoScan's weekly best-selling VHS chart"! Nielsen VideoScan's VHS and DVD sales charts are also published in Billboard, The Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, and other publications.
Update: The DVD placed a respectable #4, behind the likes of Sleeping Beauty and Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. Anger Management was number one. Forum Link
BIONICLE: The Mask Maker Is 2004 Title Posted by Mark on September 25, 2003 at 08:44 AM CST:
The "BIONICLE™, Unmasked" article in the October 2003 issue of Animation Magazine we reported last week contains the title to the 2004 direct-to-video release: BIONICLE™: The Mask Maker. (Thanks to MoD reader SMasterMatt for sending this in.) Don't go looking for information about it on www.MaskMaker.com or www.TheMaskMaker.com though. It appears the generic www.BIONICLEmovie.com, currently home of the Mask Of Light video, will be serving as the home page for the new release and perhaps the 2005 theatrical release as well.
Finding movie titles with available domain names is very difficult. You might remember the screenplay for Mask Of Light was originally titled Mask Of Destiny, and that one was already taken too. Forum Link
New Mask, Old Comic Posted by Mark on September 25, 2003 at 08:23 AM CST:
MoD read "Takanuva Toa of Light" writes in with a link to Panini Comics in Germany. There you will find DC Comics BIONICLE™ Issue 1, auf Deutsch, with two special offers included: a "giant" (riesen) poster of KOPAKA NUVA and a poisoned (vergiftete) HAU NUVA mask. If you click on the image of the magazine, you can get a closer look at the mask. Forum Link
More New Stuff Posted by Mark on September 24, 2003 at 12:43 AM CST:
MoD reader Ero, not content to rest on his laurels, notes that there are new screensavers (RAHKSHI and TOA NUVA slideshows) on BIONICLE.com and complains that he has told us three times now that Comic 13 is also online (MoD reader Majin_Tahu told us that a while back too). And for LEGO® Club members only, Ero and MoD reader KinCryos tell us there is a new BIONICLE™-inspired model: the HAPAKA — a dog-like creature. Forum Link
Poster of the Day Posted by Mark on September 24, 2003 at 12:00 AM CST:
No, I'm not going to cycle through all one hundred posters again (just yet), but I have a new one to share with you. This is a promotional poster for the recently completed Summer 2003 BIONICLE®: UNLEASHED TOUR.
New Wallpaper On LEGO.com Posted by Mark on September 23, 2003 at 10:47 AM CST:
Hyper-helpful MoD reader Ero points out new wallpapers on LEGO.com: for "BIONICLE™: The Game" and for RAHKSHI. The Mac screensaver was also available for "The Game", but the PC version was offline at the time of this article.

Market Watch: TRU TAKUTANUVA On Shelves! Posted by Purple_Dave on September 21, 2003 at 11:47 PM CST:
I was out of town all weekened, but after landing in Grand Rapids, MI, I headed straight from the airport to the local TRU. They had the exclusive TAKUTANUVA sets stocked on the shelves, complete with the alternate MASK OF SHADOWS, and priced at $49.99 (for those who keep track, that means you get the movie KRAAHKAN for a penny). The set number is 10201, it rang up as item number 673419035606 (I think that's the SKU, if you want to ask your local TRU if they've got them stashed in the back), it does come with the translucent glittery MASK OF LIGHT (doesn't say so on the box, but I just opened one of the ones I bought), and the instruction booklets are numbered with the original set numbers instead of the combo number. Unlike with other similar sets (like the Mos Espa Podrace), it does not include any interior boxes to keep the parts bags from the two component sets seperated, though the individual bags appear to be sorted according to their original sets. The movie KRAAHKAN is packed seperately from all of the other parts.
Costco Mini BIONICLE Comic #1 With DVD Posted by Mark on September 20, 2003 at 04:08 AM CST:
MoD readers Colin, TakaII, and TakaII's Mom all wrote in about a Costco-exclusive special mini-sized edition of BIONICLE™ Comic #1 packaged with the Mask Of Light DVD. TakaII and TakaII's Mom were nice enough to take pictures of the package and the comic for us too. Forum Link

Market Watch: Cleaning Out BIONICLE ISLAND Posted by Mark on September 19, 2003 at 10:20 AM CST:
Mike Edwards, late of Kanohi-Power and the defunct Bionicle Island web sites, sent me a notice that he is selling some of his older and more rare BIONICLE™ collectables on eBay. Currently up for auction are some unusual stickers along with some McDonald's promos, but he promises some LEGOLAND® Mask Kits, press kit booklets, and his yellow RURU for future auctions in the next few days. "DUTY" Open On Mask Of Light Web Site Posted by Mark on September 18, 2003 at 09:29 AM CST:
MoD reader Ero reports "DUTY", "phase two" of the Mask Of Light journey, plus Chapter Two of "The Legend Continues", have both opened up on MaskOfLight.com. There is a new screensaver too (for both Mac and PC) which displays a slideshow of scenes from the movie. Forum Link
Market Watch: A Shoe Will Be Revealed Posted by Mark on September 17, 2003 at 09:14 AM CST:
Purple Dave mentioned the Nike shoe ad in the BIONICLE™: Mask Of Light DVD insert, but I thought I should post it here for those unfortunate souls who don't have the movie yet. This is the first time the TAKANUVA shoe has been revealed here (note the gold heel and stitching). And if you have not seen the RAHKSHI shoe before, well you have now! Forum Link
A Hero Will Be Revealed Posted by Purple_Dave on September 16, 2003 at 11:19 PM CST:
Today was a pretty big day for me. The MoL video was released today (spotted it for $19.99 on DVD at TRU, BTW), which means my preview copy is just another MoL DVD. I finally got to see the MoL ad on TV...twice. Oh yeah, and my September issue of the LEGO Magazine arrived today, complete with issue #14 of the comic.

BIONICLE: Mask Of Light Available Today! Posted by Mark on September 16, 2003 at 07:00 AM CST:
Unless you have been under a rock for a year now, you probably already know that BIONICLE™: Mask Of Light is officially available today in the US and Canada. I've put up four scans of Sunday's ads from which it is clear that if you spend more than $19.99 for the DVD, then you've spent too much. Costco appears to have the lowest price at $17.29.
The CVS/pharmacy ad is especially of interest because of the BIONICLE™ Pickle Chamber … uh, Power Chamber. It is good to see old sets recycled in a new bundle at a lower price. If you buy it with the MoL DVD, you can save an additional $2.00. That's a dilly of a deal!
Market Watch: Mask Of Discounts? Posted by Purple_Dave on September 14, 2003 at 11:13 PM CST:
MoD reader Capyberra writes in to say that he found three ad flyers in Sunday's newspaper (Target, Best Buy, and Circuit City) that are advertising Tuesday's MASK OF LIGHT video for a mere $19.99. Wal-Mart is also known for having a store policy of beating every advertised price, so they'll probably be selling it for $19.97, or something like that. If you're still planning to buy either MAKUTA or TAKANUVA, remember that you can redeem the attached coupon for an instant $2 rebate with purchase of the MoL movie and either of those two sets, but you have to buy them at the same time. In other words, the coupon's no good at Best Buy or Circuit City. Forum Link
Market Watch: BIONICLE: The Game For GBA Hits The Street Posted by Mark on September 11, 2003 at 03:07 PM CST:
At least one web site had BIONICLE™: The Game for the Game Boy Advance scheduled for release yesterday, September 10th. MoD reader Ero points out that Amazon.com has it scheduled for release tomorrow, September 12th. And my local Wal-Mart? They have it today. We'll have a first look for you very soon!
Market Watch: TRU TAKUTANUVA Online? Posted by Mark on September 11, 2003 at 12:09 AM CST:
The long-rumored Toys "R" Us TAKUTANUVA set may very well be available online now. The set is supposed to contain the exclusive SPECIAL EDITION MASK OF SHADOWS. I'm not willing to bet $50 on that just yet though, since there is no picture, no useful description, and the title is merely "Lego Exclusive Bionicle" (sic). The price, weight, and dimensions are just about right for the TAKUTANUVA set however. Forum Link
Block-Busted II: Clarification? Posted by Purple_Dave on September 10, 2003 at 10:16 PM CST:
Still can't find the Blockbuster sets? I checked on a few more things, and while we still don' t know why they're so hard to pin down, a few questions have been answered.
Block-Bounty Posted by Purple_Dave on September 9, 2003 at 11:14 PM CST:
The long wait is finally over. My local Blockbuster stores finally cracked open the LEGO® cases and let those new sets get a fresh breath of air...right before I bought them.
I'm not as excited as I had hoped. In a departure from previous auctions, this item is a fixed price ("Buy It Now") "auction" where you can purchase the "Quest for the Nest" board game previously given out at Toys "R" Us stores in North America.
That's the problem with animated films — no cool props left over to auction off. Forum Link

Market Watch: 20% Off BIONICLE At K-Mart Posted by Mark on September 7, 2003 at 11:12 PM CST:
If you are lucky enough to still have a K-Mart in your town then you will appreciate having all LEGO® sets on sale at 20% off. MAKUTA, JALLER, and TAKUA were spotlighting the announcement in today's weekly advertisement. Thanks to MoD reader Jguy101 for the heads-up.
DVD Of Light, Part III Posted by Purple_Dave on September 7, 2003 at 02:56 PM CST:
Another advantage of DVDs is that you can use them for drink coasters if you decide you don't like them, since you can't return them anyways once they've been opened. Then again, another batch of bonus features is still probably more exciting, right? Well, good news, there is another full page of them.
DVD Of Light, Part II Posted by Purple_Dave on September 6, 2003 at 08:33 AM CST:
Part of the advantage to getting the DVD over the VHS version is that you don't have to worry about it getting eaten by your player. Of course, most people, like myself, only care about the bonus features. And here there be bonus features!
DVD Of Light, Part I Posted by Purple_Dave on September 5, 2003 at 06:04 PM CST:
I received my review copy of the MASK OF LIGHT DVD today. While I did have to agree not to reveal the story, I have been given a certain amount of leeway in what I can discuss.

Block-Busted? Posted by Purple_Dave on September 4, 2003 at 06:36 PM CST:
We reported in August that Blockbuster stores would be carrying a variety of BIONICLE sets, some with unique twists. I still haven't seen them locally...but now I know why. I was able to talk to someone who really knows what's going on in the local store, and they're basically waiting to hear from the district manager when it's okay to put them out for sale. Why? Because if they put them out before the approved street-date, their store can be fined $5000. This doesn't necessarily mean that the street-date hasn't already come and gone, though. It just means that this store hasn't been told what day that is yet. Forum Link

Bio-Update Posted by Purple_Dave on September 3, 2003 at 09:37 PM CST:
MoD reader GeleagaNui reports that bios for both TAKANUVA and MAKUTA have been added to the official website. They include descriptions of the powers of KANOHI AVOHKII and KANOHI KRAAHKAN, and what might constitute a tiny bit of MoL spoiler info. If you're really intent on avoiding every last bit of story info, you might want to wait two weeks on this one. Forum Link

Creative Capers Interview Posted by Purple_Dave on September 1, 2003 at 10:00 AM CST:
A few months ago the opportunity to interview the folks at Creative Capers came up, but neither Mark nor I were able to take advantage of it. Fortunately, Rebelscum.com, one of our sister sites, has a staff reporter (Mark Hurray) living in the area who was gracious enough to give of his time to do the preliminary interview for us. Since then, we've been working with the official PR group to fine-tune it for your reading enjoyment.
For The Fans Posted by Purple_Dave on September 1, 2003 at 10:00 AM CST:
We are proud to bring you the greatest announcement in the history of the oldest BIONICLE™ news site, MaskofDestiny.com. It has come to our attention that there is no safe place to discuss MaskofDestiny news, and the time has come to rectify that situation. On July 16th, 2001, we brought you MoD. Today, on September 1st, 2003, we bring you F.MoD, the official MaskofDestiny forums, not for ourselves, but for you. It's a bit rough around the edges yet, but we'll be working to improve it over time.
