K'nex To Compete With LEGO®?

Next to the LEGO® products, the only other building sets Ive kept and put trust in would be that of the K’nex building systems, though some of their recent attempts to keep interest in the builders seem iffy to me and their standard parts bring more of a mechanical and functional style of building that is not quite possible with LEGO bricks, this article announces their introduction of K’nex bricks, compatible with other leading bricks.

From the looks of things, I would say K’nex wanted to augment their products by creating compatibility with the more popular brands already in many homes with this move, and to be honest I would think these K’nex Bricks would fit better with a standard LEGO Brick than a Megablocks brick would, but I haven’t had the opportunity to test this theory yet. I do think if LEGO and K’nex combined forces they could pull off some very interesting construction sets, especially when you can create a large scale base more easily with K’nex than LEGO, but LEGO has Knex beat hands down on detail and smaller scale mechanical structures.

On the other hand K’nex is like a different operating system, and tossing in these bricks and balancing their compatibility with other leading brick based construction sets as well as their own will either be hit or miss, and much like how Ive been avoiding adding MEGABLOCKS products to my LEGO parts collection, I’ll be skeptical of actually combining these two different brands to make one creation, but if the K’nex bricks are on par with the standards the LEGO company set, and a good variety of parts to augment this compatibility are released, I might be willing to give it a try, or at least get some to keep if only to use them with it’s own respective brand.

I plan to grab a few of these K’nex bricks and give you my thoughts on them after having them in hand, but based on past experience with the K’nex systems, they make great custom displays for your BIONICLE based creations at the least.
