Mask Of Destiny’s Fifth Year Commemorative Contest

For this contest you have five categories that you can enter, the catch? You can only enter one MoC! However if that MoC applies to more than one category, it can be entered in multiple categories, but you can only win one prize.

To be eligible, you MUST have your parent or guardians permission! With ANY contest you ever enter ALWAYS have your parent or guardian’s permission if you are under the age of 18. I prefer you have your parent enter the creation on your behalf. If you are 18 or older then there is no need for parental consent. Email your entries to imatron@comcast.net by August 10th, 2006. Midnight is the official deadline. YOU MUST INCLUDE A VALID SHIPPING ADRESS with the entry in the email to be able to receive a prize! If you cannot include an address then the prize goes to the next runner up to include an address. For my convenience please include “MoD MoC contest” in the subject of the email since I might need to sort using a word search, potentially leaving your entry out. Out of all fairness Mask Of destiny staff cannot be eligible for a prize since they may be unfairly favored, however if they are able to hide their identity and I cannot tell they are indeed staff, then they are at least eligible to place in the contest, but they will not receive a prize. Any Moderators of the Miraka Nui RPG, assuming they aren’t staff in another section, WILL be eligible for a prize if they enter however I must not be able to identify them until AFTER judging is complete, so if you are or have been asked about working on the Miraka Nui RPG, I will need you to enter using a different email address, and be sure to use a different background for taking your pictures so I don’t accidentally identify you via background similarity on previous MoCs. I don’t plan on changing these or the fallowing rules but they may be subject to change at my discretion, however you have the right to withdraw from the contest at any time if you disagree with the changes in rules, but you will not be able to re enter if you modify the MoC from it’s original construction, this includes descriptions of that MoC (MoC standing for My Own Creation). Last of all, the creation cannot use custom painted, custom made, or altered parts. You may enter older creations that you have posted on the forum or elsewhere, but it will be seen as less creative and less favored during judging, but if the MoC’s been revamped please describe how so with the entry. MoCs mostly consisting of standard bricks are acceptable! You can make your own BIONICLE® themed playset so long as it fits the category. Entries must include some level of written description! Otherwise certain features might go unappreciated. If you MUST use a photo editor for anything other than making the image more clear to see, you MUST include an original unedited picture. You MAY use a third party to store the photos online (such as Brickshelf) and send me the links.

Category one: Alternate Model

Limiting yourself to the parts that come in any one BIONICLE canister set, you must make something completely new! If the set only came with so many of one part(s), you may not use more than the amount of that part that the set came with. For example you cannot use more than four VISORAK feet since the set only had that many feet in the first place. You can only use parts in the corresponding colors in which the set came with, I cannot accept substitution parts. Clever use of parts is favored, especially in sets with fewer parts

Category two: Way Of The Toa Olda

Build a creation only using parts that came in BIONICLE sets released before the TOA METRU, as in, you cannot use the TOA METRU parts or anything released afterwards. You CAN use parts that come in other LEGO® products in colors you can’t normally find in the BIONICLE toy line, as long as the shape existed as a part in the BIONICLE line BEFORE the TOA METRU. So, you could use that dark green TOA NUVA leg from the recent Vikings sets. However, you will not be able to use non BIONICLE elements that came in other sets (so you couldn’t use the classic 2 by 4 brick unless a BIONICLE set before the METRU actually used it’s shape). So in short key that means you can use older parts in the newer colors!

Category three: All In The Canister

For this category you have to build a set that fits into any BIONICLE canister. This EXCLUDES the TOA INIKA canister, which you may not use. The set must be able to fit into the canister without removing any parts, this includes tools or weapons. The MoC MAY physically attach to the lid, but the MoC’s attachment mechanism must not protrude out of the can’s lid when inside it by more than the length of two studs going by a standard LEGO brick (The studs which hold the bricks together).

Category four: Inventors Guild

For this contest you have to demonstrate a new “Concept” to use with a MoC and include an essay about what you invention does and what you speculate it is good for. To be specific you use a part or group of parts a certain way with other parts and then tell us about it and how your idea contributes to fellow MoCers. For example, a kind of shoulder or a fully articulated torso. Perhaps a working toa tool? Be sure to include a picture of your concept/invention to demonstrate how it works, with a preferable long essay to describe it for us. Spelling counts!

Category five: BIG BOB

Build a large scale MoC preferably between two and three canisters tall compared to a PIRAKA or TOA METRU canister. Creativity and use of parts is the key for this one, since a large MoC means he can use more complex and larger tools or have more special features and mechanisms!

Lastly, the prizes are still partly in the works, but of them I have the most recent tub of assorted parts to be released in the U.S. (NOT the one with the gold masks and disks of time), an unopened brand new Toa Onua (From BIONICLE’s first year), and two complete sets of TOA HORDIKA magnetic tools. Only first place will actualy recieve a prize, unless the first place winner cannot recieve their prize, in which then it goes to the next eligible runner up. I still have to nab a couple prizes obviously… You may send your entries as soon as this is posted. Lastly, let’s congratulate BZPower.com and it’s staff who recently had their fifth anniversary as well!
