Hello! I’m Gonel, here to give a brief overview of the Myths and Legacy project and site. Below is a transcript of the video we unveiled earlier today in the 8/10 livestream, although you can find the video itself here.

The BIONICLE community has done an exceptional job recovering and archiving official BIONICLE assets. Nearly everything relevant to the story has been preserved by either BioMediaProject, BS01, or the Greg Archives. Yet the official media has not been the driving source of content over the past decade, and over the many years the BIONICLE fandom has existed, we the fans have produced absolutely extraordinary works of art, music, MOCs, animations, essays, games, 3d models, and stories. Unfortunately, there have not traditionally been galleries kept where these and other works are preserved, and instead, they are scattered far and wide across the fandom—many lost to time, dead links, or website crashes.

As of this year, efforts have been made to consolidate some of the fandom’s best work, and although not all of these mediums are accounted for, several projects are in active development to provide central channels for enjoying these. Some of these will be announced at later dates, but I am here to represent the Myths and Legacy project, dedicated to preserving and showcasing the fandom’s best stories.

BIONICLE was always driven by story, and it’s no wonder that fanfiction has been a dominant medium within our community. Many fan writings have even been added into the greater BIONICLE canon. Yet in the days since BIONICLE ended, our collective writing abilities have only continued to improve, yet most stories languish in obscurity.

To a greater degree than anywhere else, I have been active in the Custom BIONICLE Wiki for years, and we have seen stories of the best and worst quality the fandom has to offer. Yet, as an administrator of that site, I’m intimately familiar with the challenges new users have to face, namely actually finding the good content. It was during my time active on there that BobTheDoctor27 and I started the Myths and Legacy project for compiling quality canon compliant fan works. That idea has morphed into a website, a move that was made in concert with MaskOfDestiny and Wall of History.

Today, the Myths and Legacy site is host to a growing number of fan works, both from fan studios as well as independent creators—original content as well as archived classics. The content that we have already posted to the website is just the tip of the iceberg, and we have numerous ideas about what to host and where to take the website from here. However, at the core of the website is preserving fan works, and it is our hope that you, the fans, can give us recommendations and submissions about what you would like to see hosted.

With all that said, it should be worth noting that our site unfortunately cannot host everything, and so we place a high priority on stories with certain characteristics, most notably accessibility. Highest priority is given to stories that are modular or standalone, feature minimal original characters, are well written, and are canon compliant.

However, although we cannot host every story, we are developing an index of all BIONICLE fan stories with links. If you have something that you would like included in this index, we would love to add it.

To conclude, we are excited about how rapidly this project is moving, and we are eager to unveil some of our forthcoming endeavors.
