MOC: Scrap-pile

Rangus’ creation Scrap-pile does break a taboo or two by using painted parts. Considering we’ve featured CG renders of MOCs with pieces that don’t exist, and creations using 3D printed pieces, I suppose this is actually less taboo. It’s nice to show off the less-traveled paths in MOCing every now and then.

While it does somewhat rely on the paint to sell the character design, I do like the overall asymmetrical hunch-back design. The throwbot foot also works surprisingly well as a face. I can’t help but think he could have given him a junky look without the paint, but it would probably have involved quite a bit of greebling. Although, the paint is so well done in some places it actually looks like rusted metal. Scrap-pile vaguely reminds me of Pascal from Nier Automata, and the robot from the movie “Finch”.

You can see more of Rangus’ work here on his youtube channel, where he has quite a few BIONICLE creations he’s posted over the last 5 years.
