Reflections stir deep in the ocean, for even as Jaller reflects on the experiences he has just faced, Brutaka grapples with his own recent adventures and the truths that lay in store for him along the way. Far above them both, the Piraka prepare their last vengeful scheme before reality comes crashing down around them.

Meanwhile in the epilogue, far to the north an ancient power surveys a ruined lair. The warrior known simply as ‘Icarax’ wanders Makuta’s domain in Mangaia in search of the greatest treasure that lies hidden there: the Mask of Shadows. But when Takanuva arrives to confront them, the experience that unfolds will leave them both shaken to their core.
