MOC: Dinosaurs

In Legoman71’s video, “Turning Dinosaurs into Bionicles“, storytelling is just as important as the MOC itself. While the video demonstrates the construction of the MOCs in Stud.io, he narrates a survey expedition to a distant planet where the creatures live.

These MOCs are not overly complex, favoring simplicity through the creative use of parts. If you wanted, you could probably replicate them easily if you didn’t mind substituting for the part colors only available in Stud.io. I can’t really see a good way to improve these, since they already do a decent job of covering gaps for their style and scale. I might make the case that the spitter themed MOC could use a more suitable set of parts for the head frills, although this is not intended to be accurate to the source material, be it real life or Jurassic Park.

You can see more of Legoman71’s creations here on youtube. His videos often feature Toa scale CCBS creations. They are typically not overly complex, although still fun to see. His BIONICLE videos are often just a few seconds, or a few minutes long, with the longer videos focusing on the storytelling behind the character and design.

  1. Shoot, I think I messed up the part I wrote on the frills, I think I meant to include something like “But the shield pieces he used give it it’s own charm and suit the fact that this is a biomechanical character, rather than an attempt to accurately replicate the source material”. I must have gotten sidetracked researching if Dilophosaurus actually had a frill and forgotten to add that.

Debating if I want to edit that in now. XP

If you have enough interest in an idea to build and share it, then someone is going to appreciate your effort, no matter how complex or simple.

    • I’m just glad someone takes the time to watch my videos. The fact that you wrote a whole article gives me that extra boost of motivation we all need from time to time. Thank you so much, it’s truly an honor to be mentioned on the longest running Bionicle Archive website. 🙂

  2. This is the kindest review I have ever read. I just Started my channel just for fun. The fact that people like you enjoy my work, just makes my day even better.
PS – I made the Dilopho-Nexus’ frill with what custom parts I had at my disposal. I also would of made the frill more flashier with multi colored parts or custom textures, but I was sort of on a dead line. Thank you so much this really means a lot to me!
