Two years ago today, the Myths and Legacy site went live.
Today marks the second anniversary of the launch of the MnL website! Thanks to our tireless writers and editors, we have published new updates every single week, releasing wave after wave of brand-new BIONICLE content. From all-new BIONICLE fanfiction stories to our extensive catalogue of novelizations to our recent series of book/movie comparisons, we have continued the momentum we built in our first year!
What lies ahead? What’s still in store? What more is there? M&L still has its most exciting developments still in front of us, so join us this anniversary in exploring the future of Myths and Legacy!
What Has Gone Before
On our first anniversary, we began by reviewing all our releases from the prior year–as well as launching the very first in our collection of novelizations. This year we have no less to celebrate, although in many ways the type of content has grown more varied.
In total, we published
- The final chapters of Invasion, our replacement for the lost BIONICLE Legends story, as well as its unofficial sequels, the Annals of Icarax story serial and Heart of Metru Nui short story
- Comic novelizations from the Mata Nui, Ignition, and Glatorian comic series
- An fully-realized rendition of The Sack of Tajun
- A novelization for Metus’ Revenge
- An “up-graded” version of the Journey of Takanuva
- Full, complete novelizations of the Quest for the Toa, the Mata Nui Online Game, the Mata Nui Online Animations, the Mata Nui Online Game II, the Legend Continues, and My Lego Network BIONICLE Campaign
- Revisions to BS01’s Walkthroughs on the above games
- Short stories chronicling the personal trials of Pohatu, Onua, and Takanuva
- A Nuparu-centric story exploring the origins of the Bohrok-Kal… and the feared “Bahrag spider”
- A complete conclusion to 2001 that blends all the canonical portions of BC1, MNOG, TLoMN, BIONICLE Synopsis, and other sources
- Book vs Movie comparisons of Mask of Light and The Legend Reborn
- Fan archives for VootCaboot, as well as an expansion for that of Minirigby
- Early chapters set in the Vision of the Great Beings continuation storyline
It’s been an exciting year!
What Is Still To Come
Now as we embark on the third year of our site, we’re starting by doing something we rarely do… removing content.
First, MnL will no longer host a section for the noncanon contest winners. With WoH having recently included each of those stories in their most recent update, there is no longer reason for us to host these on our site. As of today, the section has been taken down.
Additionally, we are also pulling our original chapters for the continuation of TYQ and TPTB. These will not be gone forever, but there is good reason to remove them for now…
All of this is effective as of today.
Now, in the year to come, we will finish much of the work we’ve started within the past couple years — such as novelizations and movie vs book comparisons — but this year we hope to add quite a few more sections for independent fan writers. There are so many talented writers in the community, and anything we can do to shine more light on their work is a great boon to any who take interest in reading them.
Furthermore, we anticipate that this year will see the first major steps taken to debut a project we have teased from the first launch of the site.
Those who remember the original version of the site may remember that we had six sections featured on the main menu. As more of the site was updated and expanded, each of these were unlocked… except one. This one disappeared briefly as plans to release it were postponed… but now that the Noncanon Contest Winners section has been removed, this last elusive section has made its return.
It, and the project it represents, is the culmination of all our work at this site. We can’t wait to unveil it, hopefully on 8/10. But for now know that as final preparations are made, this section has resumed its position awaiting the day it will launch.
Concluding Remarks:
It’s been yet another exciting year to spend with you. We hope to keep up with regular releases, but this next year may see that rate falter somewhat. Even if the quantity dips, however, the quality will remain.
We hope that you continue to enjoy the Myths and Legacy project, and as our community and our scope continues to grow and expand, we look forward to providing more exciting BIONICLE content.
If you haven’t already joined our community on Discord, we encourage you to hang out with us there.
