MOC: Tankas

This is a creation by Marekardas

I wanted to follow up last week’s featured MOC with something a little more Technic/BIONICLE friendly, in hopes of seeing more builders take advantage of electronics in their creations. Marekardas‘ MOC Tankas really appealed to me for it’s simple, colorful and functional design. It is not much more than a compact bulldozer designed to push balls around, though I absolutely love the design. Marekardas only recorded this creation in French, so many of us will be out of the loop on what he’s talking about. The construction of the MOC itself is fairly easy to understand despite the language barrier, once he starts disassembling it for the viewers.

It would not be hard for a builder to modify this design, and maybe add walking legs in place of the treads. Perhaps add another IR receiver and motor to the battery back and turn the bulldozer blades into grabbing-mandibles? The design makes for a quick and easy learning platform to make your own motorized MOCs out of. For better or worse, the old IR system is retired and only readily available on sites like Bricklink. The newer Powered Up system (although theoretically superior in most ways) is considerably less plug and play, though available in a reasonably cheap kit.

If you want to see more of Marekardas‘ work, his youtube channel has plenty of motorized creations to take inspiration from, though he also has some very cool BIONICLE MOCs and system creations. Though he is primarily a French-speaking builder, he does have a few uploads in English you can check out.
