Some small updates to the M&L classic.
As noted in our launch for Old War Rahi 2, our original edition of Old War Rahi was released three years prior, on 7/6/21. Although a sequel wasn’t planned at the time, a collection of notes were left as a result of that story’s development–notes that would eventually, unexpectedly come together years later. Nevertheless, all the themes and concepts in development in the original story set the stage for the central conflict of the sequel.
When work on OWR2 started and we revisited OWR1, we identified some aspects of the story we wanted to revise. Nearly all of these were minor issues in syntax and presentation, cleaning up and tightening wording here and there. As far as the storyline itself, the only major change was giving a small role to a character who we planned to include, but who was accidentally excluded from the final story… half the inspiration for the main species in the story–a character who, like Primal, seeks peace on his island. We’ve also changed some capitalization to reflect that found in published materials, divided the story in two parts to reflect the natural (and developmental) divisions of the story, and revised Brutaka’s backstory to more closely match that present in the canon (as opposed to what was on BS01 for some time). We also removed references to Brutaka’s species, as well as the suggestion that the Order gave Brutaka his Olmak, both in favor of leaving those questions to personal headcanon.
Old War Rahi was released prior to our Mask of Destiny news updates, so in honor of its current rerelease and the debut of its sequel, take the opportunity to revisit this M&L classic!
