Favorite Vote Winner to Be Revealed in 2022

Looks like The LEGO Group won’t tell us which theme won until they reveal the 90th Anniversary set in 2022. They did say something about how the second round of voting would be a bit of a secret, but it seems they intended to take that a bit further.

While BIONICLE won the first round by a large percentage, there’s no guarantee it will be revealed as the winner next year. At the very least, if my math is correct, 32.2 percent of fans included BIONICLE as one of their votes. That means the vast majority of the votes, about 68% did not vote for BIONICLE at all.

It will be interesting to find out how the votes redistribute when going from 3 votes on 30 themes to one vote on four, but I got the impression that the BIONICLE fans remained resolute in their choice. If roughly the same number of people voted, then I’m thinking Castle’s inclusion will actually spread the votes more in BIONICLE’s favor. Dividing that 68% into three opposing themes is about 23% each rather than the 34% either theme could have achieved to overtake BIONICLE if the castle voters decided to vote again after being cut.

I personally think the real wildcard here is what percentage of that 68% were voters who had all of their desired themes cut. If they recast their votes, depending on the sub-percentage, they could easily put Space into the lead. Then there’s late voters who missed the first round, and the potential for extra voters who rallied together at the last minute, maybe even just to try and vote something else ahead of BIONICLE.

There are more factors to consider, but I can’t say I’m interested in going into that much detail just to speculate on which theme won. At the very least, I can say BIONICLE put up a good show in round two.

  1. […] It has been an interesting year, and BIONICLE fans are coming together all over the world to celebrate it’s 20th anniversary as well. The sheer force of this celebration may even have put a new BIONICLE set on shelves in 2022, although we won’t know for sure until they reveal the 90th anniversary LEGO set. At the very least, we got The LEGO Group’s attention when it took first place in the preliminary vote. […]
