If you’re interested in becoming a MoD staff member, there are a few requirements and a few bonuses. The requirements are as follows:
1. Medium-level or better image editing software. (MS Paint will not cut it.)
2. Excellent spelling and grammar.
3. Regular access to a computer owned by yourself or your family. (If you have to rely on using one at work or sneaking into the local college’s computer labs, I don’t want to have to deal with potential problems that might ensue.)
4. Free time, and lots of it. The entire reason I’m looking to bring more people on is that I’m the only one who has any significant amount of free time, and that’s not going to last for many more weeks.
5. Ability to travel locally. You don’t need to be able to fly across the country to go to an event (though that would be a definite plus) but if you are the only staff-member living near where a certain event is taking place, and you can’t go because noone will give you a ride across town, that’s bad.
6. Professional attitude. This is primarily a news website, and while we don’t have a problem with joking around a bit, we need to keep it clean.
Bonuses include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Professional-level image editing software, such as Adobe Photoshop.
2. Medium-level or higher digital camera. (Not webcams or any basic point-and-shoot style camera.)
3. Scanner.
4. Access to any LEGOLAND® theme park(s) and/or any LEGO® storefronts. Especially the ones in Europe, since right now the entire staff lives in the US.
5. Prior web experience. Not ‘Prior web dabbling’. Anyone can sign up for a free website and throw something together, but not everyone can build a complete website from the ground up. If you’ve done so, feel free to drop the URL in your application.
6. Graphics design experience. Again, not ‘Graphic design dabbling’. For instance, take a look at the header graphic for this page. If you can churn out stuff like that on a regular basis, let me know. Currently all of our graphics have been provided by Chris from the Rebelscum website, and while I love the job he’s done, I’d very much prefer having someone on-staff who can produce new graphics so we don’t have to mooch off of Rebelscum.
Well, that’s pretty much all I could think of. If you feel you can provide what we’re looking for, e-mail me with a list of what you have to offer. If you have other abilities or resources that you feel would be beneficial to a news-oriented website, feel free to list them as well.
