Miramax, LEGO Group Make Big Changes

Admitting defeat to the Barbie DVDs after promising to trounce them with a non-existent theatrical release, Miramax, Create TV and Media, and The LEGO Group announced big changes to the BIONICLE® video franchise today. Acknowledging that the male-dominated audience of BIONICLE is not good for sales, The LEGO Group agreed to change the sex of two of the TOA from male to female.

In addition, the popular CLIKITS™ brand will be integrated, expanded, and combined with BIONICLE. The TOA sets will come with new fashionable clothing and accessories in a blend of dress-up play and construction dubbed Dresstruction . Finally, the TOA will no longer refer to each other as “brother” or “sister” but they will use the terms “dude” and “babe” instead.

Jeff Tahler expects the combined line’s videos to outsell the Star Wars films because “there will be nine theatrical films, eventually … maybe.”
