This year marks the exciting debut of new characters, new storylines and new features in the products, as well as the first-ever BIONICLE play theme construction sets and minifigure versions of the heroes and villains!
The Toa fulfill their promise and return to the city of Metru Nui to rescue the hibernating Matoran left behind in the citys tower coliseum. Upon arriving, the Toa discover the island is experiencing black-out conditions and that a great variety of Rahi creatures have escaped the archives — turning the powerless city into an untamed island of roaming wildlife. Even stranger, as the Toa move toward the coliseum, they discover vile oozing webs of an unknown origin. They soon discover the source of the
webs; fierce spider-like hunter creatures, the Visorak beasts, who ambush and soundly defeat the overconfident heroes with launchable spinners containing incredible powers.
The bodies of the Toa are mutated, twisted and transformed by the Visorak venom. In turn, Toa Metru forms and bestial Rahi forms are combined into something new: the Toa Hordika! Though the heroes have gained the ability to launch elemental spinners, their mask powers have seemingly disappeared.. The Toa do not know how to complete their mission until they meet the small, but wise Rahaga. The Rahaga are the BIONICLE equivalent of trapper beast-masters, and help the Toa Hordika tame their bestial side and master their new ability with the spinners. The Toa Hordika regroup and form a strategy planning the construction of a fleet of transport ships which they will use to carry the Matoran to a new home. carry the Matoran to a new home. They split up and set out to different parts of Metru Nui to gather the pieces for the transports al the while, being hunted by the powerful Visorak Beasts.
In the end, the Toa return to the Coliseum in their completed transport, but find the arena has become the nest of the Visorak Beasts. The Toa face off against the powerful leaders of the Visorak, the venom king Sidorak and his viceroy Roodaka.. The Toas personal growth has earned them a powerful ally in a legendary creature of unmatched power, KEETONGU, who has the ability to absorb and counteract the powers of his foes. As a Clash of Titans is waged in the arena, the Toa Hordika load the hibernating Matoran into their transport to complete the Great Rescue.
This year marks the launch of collectible new Rhotuka Spinners. These sets come with one silver laser engraved spinner and two injected spinners. All of the major characters in this chapter of BIONICLE have the ability to launch spinners, which add to the role play ability as children pull the ripcord to let them fly. This year also marks the debut of the BIONICLE play theme sets Battle of Metru Nui and Tower of Visorak. Sets feature Toa minifigures, spiders, and much more.
