The big news in the insert (other than B3 releasing in the Fall of 2005) is a brand new website dedicated to BIONICLE® backpacks and shoes (so far, anyway) at GoQubic.com . Like Nike, GoQubic is based in Beaverton, Oregon, so the company may be a spinoff of Nike.
As we reported earlier, the shoes come in a TOA VAKAMA trim. TOA WHENUA, TOA NOKAMA, and TOA NUJU shoes are due in December of 2004. In addition to the shoes, GoQubic is making three “daypacks”: TOA WHENUA, TOA VAKAMA, and another TOA VAKAMA pack. They should be available soon.
Back to the DVD, I was looking forward to seeing the movie again while listening to the Commentary Track when I discovered that there is no Commentary Track! Just why that is, I can only guess at this point (and I do have one). What it does offer in the way of audio is a Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound track, a DTS 5.1 Digital Surround Sound track, or a French Language track.
Other content on the disk includes trailers for The Incredibles and other movies and videos. There is the “Making of BIONICLE® 2: Legends of Metru Nui ” feature, most notable for its sneak-peak at the ’05 sets. In “The Legend Revealed”, members of the BIONICLE team answer questions sent in via the Internet. Best question: “Will there be more islands?” Answer: “Yes.”
The final piece of the bonus feature puzzle is the “Metru Nui Explorer”. The explorer is a little bit on the skimpy side with only one picture per Metru. NUJU is your host, so all of the explanations of the Metru, MATORAN, and TOA METRU come from his unique perspective.
There is a fun bonus at the end of the film while rolling the credits. In the “Special Thanks” slot, each of the people listed there has a heading written in the MATORAN script. For example, Greg Farshtey, Alastair Swinnerton, and Leah Weston (three people familiar to long-time MoD readers) are all listed as “Location Scouts”.
Another bonus not listed on the box is a collection of BIONICLE television commercials: VAHKI, TOA METRU, LEGOLAND California, and a quick peak at the insert picture for BIONICLE 3 . It is nice to have the commercials included in full-resolution.
All in all, the bonus features are a definite plus for the package. The only real complaint is that there could have been so much more.
