BrickTalk: Chat Transcript

countersinkDG has entered the room.

Mark of MoD : Welcome Jake McKee!

Roger CT BZ : Welcome!

isipt4 : Welcome!

ScottHetfield109 : yo from BS01 ^_^

toahamtaro: Welcome

countersinkDG: hey guys! This is Jake

CycloneKestrel : Hello.

TheKidFromLB228 : Hey.

Roger CT BZ : Hi.

THE Eiken : Hey Jake.

e X o T a H u 4 : Hello

Mark of MoD : Jake, can you give us a quick run down on what you do for the LEGO Group? Just in case anyone here is not clear
on that.

countersinkDG : yeah, sure

countersinkDG : I’m Jake McKee – i’m the Global Community Relations Specialist, working on the community development team

e X o T a H u 4 : Thats cool.

Mark of MoD : Thanks for chatting with us tonight.

countersinkDG : my task is to provide a bridge between the LEGO employees and the AFOL community – basically providing a
voice of the consumer inside the company

countersinkDG : you can follow my adventures at my LEGO blog:

countersinkDG: www.bricksonthebrain.com/blog

Mark of MoD : I understand that you are very, very busy right now. True?

countersinkDG : yeah – after 5 years of pushing and pushing to get my colleagues to accept the fans and want to work with the fans
– they’re finally beginning to come around in a big way

countersinkDG : and success is terrific…but can lead to a big downside – TOO much work 🙂

Mark of MoD : I had the pleasure of listening to Jake talk about LEGO Factory and LEGO Trains at BrickFest.

countersinkDG : yeah, i’m so incredibly excited about LEGO Factory

isipt4 : I don’t get to keep up much with some new things ever since school started- what is LEGO factory?

carbunicle : my non-lego friends are impressed by factory – the notion.

TheKidFromLB228 has left the room.

Mark of MoD : Did everyone see the story about LEGO fans “hacking” LEGO Factory? Can you tell us a little bit about that Jake?

countersinkDG: LEGO Factory = www.legofactory.com… . basically the concept is that you can use the LEGO Digital Designer
software to create your own designs, upload them, then buy them… and allow others to buy as well

countersinkDG : yeah, i saw that story – i was in it 🙂

Roger CT BZ : heh

isipt4 : oh that sounds excellent!

CycloneKestrel : Are there any plans to extend the parts range available?

carbunicle : that was the hack, right?

countersinkDG : basically, the story was around the news that some fans have been working on taking the core functionality and
doing stuff with it… .not hacking as much as playing around and going in additional directions. It’s awesome

countersinkDG : as far as parts range – yes, we’re going to be adding and tweaking all the time – as you might have seen, we’ve
aleady been updating the web site to address issues that need clarifying

CycloneKestrel : Awesome. I’m sure a Matoran Designer or something like it would do immensely well with Bionicle fans…

CycloneKestrel : The Matoran Petition got over 600 signatures before it was locked.

countersinkDG : the goal … at some point in the future… is to be able to part-by-part fulfillment, rather than the bags… we’ll get
there (i hope) eventually

Mark of MoD : Jake, have you had much to do with BIONICLE?

Roger CT BZ : that would be cool. Order some nice Dark Green

CycloneKestrel : A huge percentage of Bionicle fans have a “sigfig” Matoran, many of which can’t be built with the current parts.

countersinkDG : Bionicle – only as far as it overlaps with the AFOL community

Mark of MoD : AFOLs did not exactly embrace BIONICLE at the outset, did they?!

toahamtaro has left the room.

countersinkDG : no not at all… that’s a funny story, actually….

carbunicle : the ones on Lugnet certainly didn’t

toahamtaro has entered the room.

Mark of MoD : I’m up for a funny story.

CycloneKestrel : Nor the ones I met on a Warhammer forum… I’d love to hear the story.

carbunicle : A story!

countersinkDG : i regularly get called on the carpet from AFOLs saying I’m “toeing the company line” – if i agree with the company
opinion, i’m not being honest.

countersinkDG : But if you guys remember, I was one of the ones who really supported the Bionicle concept

countersinkDG : lots of people climbed all over me 🙂

Azibo has entered the room.

countersinkDG : but I’ve always thought it was a brillant way to take the core idea of building to kids who have limited time or
interest

CycloneKestrel : Now the universe seems to demand quite the opposite…

countersinkDG : and over the years, we’ve heard tons of stories from kids and parents who say that start with Bionicle and move to
or include system

Mark of MoD : There’s just something about snapping two pieces of plastic together ….

countersinkDG : yeah, but you can still get into it quickly and easily

carbunicle : a kid can get down and dirty with a bionicle set pretty darn quick compared to a 120 piece brick set

CycloneKestrel : Oh, yes. But the depth and scope are what have many kids hooked.

isipt4 : Odd. I started with system and now I’m almost all bionicle 🙂 Systems great but i prefer the gears and ball joints of bionicle

CycloneKestrel : I was referring to the storyline… have you seen the Encyclopedia?

Mark of MoD : And unique lingo, just like all those dinosaur names.

countersinkDG : Cyclone – which is what is so cool about Bionicle – it’s the best of both ends of the spectrum

CycloneKestrel : Being a BS01 and BZP staff member, I just have the most experience with the very intense fans. 🙂

CycloneKestrel : Though I’m always surprised by how much the casual fan is drawn in.

ScottHetfield109 : as do I, Cyclone.

carbunicle : some of my work mates have Bohrok and Matoran on their desks

Mark of MoD : Jake, can you tell us a little bit about those LEGO catalogs that show up every year around this time with the blurry
pictures and odd-looking prototype sets? Why does LEGO publish a catalog if they don’t want us to look at them?

countersinkDG : so are y’all excited about the new images you’ve seen so far?

countersinkDG : ah, good question

ScottHetfield109 : ah, you must be referring to the 06 sets.

countersinkDG : yeah, but let me answer the question from Mark first – good intro

ScottHetfield109 : yep

isipt4 : I feel very mixed about the new 06 sets… I’ll let you cotinue though 😛

carbunicle : I’m 50%intrigued and 48% appalled

ScottHetfield109 : what happened to the rest?

Mark of MoD : 2% ambiguous

countersinkDG : so every year around the end of Sept/early October, we see scanned images from the German Toy dealer catalog
show up

countersinkDG : those catalogs are an important part of how we do business with the German market

AnthroHedgehog has entered the room.

toahamtaro has left the room.

AnthroHedgehog : Hi everyone I’m back

isipt4 : Hello

AnthroHedgehog : For those of you here when I was here earlier

AnthroHedgehog : Is Mr. McKee here?

Mark of MoD : Yes

AnthroHedgehog : Which is his username?

countersinkDG : unlike the US market where some HUGE amount of toy sales go through something like 4 retailers (Wal-mart,
TRU, etc.), in Germany, a vast majority of sales go through samll mom and pop shops

Mark of MoD : That one.

ScottHetfield109 : that one

AnthroHedgehog : XD

AnthroHedgehog : Has he confirmed anything about the truth behind the “06 sets”?

countersinkDG : so it’s important to communicate with the retailers about upcoming lines

ScottHetfield109 : he’s doing so now

Mark of MoD : We’re talking about the catalog images now.

AnthroHedgehog : Ok

countersinkDG : the problem with doing that for so many different small shops is that they don’t always stick to the rules

AnthroHedgehog : So the images are real?

AnthroHedgehog : Not hoaxes?

countersinkDG : these small shops are under agreements to not share the catalogs

AnthroHedgehog : Ok

flyingice77 has entered the room.

ScottHetfield109 : I take it the buyers aren’t under those agreements

Dart a Larsen has entered the room.

flyingice77 : sorry I’m late, what have I missed (this is Orochi)

countersinkDG : but the problem is that for whatever reason, some of the retailers give or sell the catalogs to consumers – who then
scan and post

AnthroHedgehog : Couldn’t(theoretically), Lego press charges?

ScottHetfield109 : common occurance, of course

AnthroHedgehog : (against the shops)

countersinkDG : these catalogs are NOT for sale, and the retailers are breaking signed agreements with us by even showing the
catalogs outside their staff

countersinkDG : yes, all too common

AnthroHedgehog : So Lego COULD press charges

countersinkDG : well, not really press charges – it’s not criminal

flyingice77 : but you have a signed agreement

Mark of MoD : Pressing charges against the people who are going to buy and sell your goods is not a good idea.

AnthroHedgehog : But I doubt they would anyway(it’d probably lose fanbase…)

countersinkDG : certainly we could sue the small shop, assuming we could figure out the specific shop in question

flyingice77 : that’s gotta be worthed something

ScottHetfield109 : aye, but not with those who buy them

countersinkDG : scott – not sure i understand?

ScottHetfield109 : I was referring to the buyers of the catalogs

AnthroHedgehog : Well are they even really buyers?

AnthroHedgehog : Because technically they are just receiving the catalogs

Mark of MoD : Does not matter. They have no agreement with LEGO.

ScottHetfield109 : right

AnthroHedgehog : Great point there, Mark

ScottHetfield109 : thus, no contract.

AnthroHedgehog : *noticing this is really cool*

countersinkDG : well, usually it’s only one person… and my assumption is that they’re trying to either a) make a few bucks, or b)
look good to their customer

countersinkDG : and right – we’re not mad at the person who obtained, we’re mad at the person who sold

flyingice77 : naturally

ScottHetfield109 : I’ve seen all sources of the pictures, they all look alike… my guess is they’re from one source

ScottHetfield109 : size and all

Mark of MoD : They spread quickly. Obviously, people are interested.

countersinkDG : yeah, a vast majority of the stores are good and play by the rules – problem is, all it takes is one

Mark of MoD : Why not go ahead and release publicly?

countersinkDG : well, couple of reasons/answers to that Mark –

ScottHetfield109 : I would guess it’s too early

AnthroHedgehog : 3.) We aren’t even close to finishing ’05 XD

AnthroHedgehog : Yeah, if I ran a company, I wouldn’t reveal next years stuff that early

countersinkDG : because printing materials takes place in advance by quite a bit from the actual release date – so the images are
often (like the ones here) not final shots

CycloneKestrel : So these are prototype products?

AnthroHedgehog : Oh, and why give all the sets? Why not only the very close to release(as in December/January)
sets?

CycloneKestrel : Or simply hasty photos?

Mark of MoD : Remember, Europe is on a different schedule from North America now.

ScottHetfield109 : yeah

Roger CT BZ : hehe

ScottHetfield109 : they had Vissies before us

carbunicle : Are the stores in Japan also mom-und-pop like Germany

ScottHetfield109 : shush, Roger 😛

countersinkDG : we MUST release images to our retailers in order for them to put their orders in place for the next year – they use
this to plan the next year’s forecast, we use it to plan production cycles, put marketing plans in place, etc.

Roger CT BZ : <3 the schedule

CycloneKestrel : GregF confirmed there would not be another split release.

AnthroHedgehog : Oh, yeah….

AnthroHedgehog : This is alot like a debate

AnthroHedgehog : But with facts

AnthroHedgehog : Like a Q/A debate

AnthroHedgehog : I for one, did not like the split release

ScottHetfield109 : the japanese on the pictures were confirmed to spell out the member’s name, magz said so in the MoD topic

flyingice77 : indeed.

ScottHetfield109 : he should know, he put them there

AnthroHedgehog : Yes

Roger CT BZ : I loved it.

CycloneKestrel : Because you profited. 😛

Mark of MoD : There is a big Toy Fair coming up October 20 in Hong Kong. Is LEGO involved with that?

flyingice77 : Because you profited. 😛 Very good point.

AnthroHedgehog : What about how the name Gaaki was put on that Matoran set? Isn’t Gaaki a Rahaga?

AnthroHedgehog : brb

CycloneKestrel : That box was likely mocked before legal had cleared the names.

Mark of MoD : It was a placeholder.

countersinkDG : now the other reason for the reason not to just dump everything is that we’re FINALLY getting better about
understanding when things come out, so we’re actually starting to move up our release/tease plans earlier – but it’s

countersinkDG : a tricky decision

Mecha Fury has entered the room.

Mecha Fury : Oh bloody I forgot…

ScottHetfield109 : quite alright

AnthroHedgehog : Interesting

Mecha Fury : I know,

countersinkDG : because a toy company (any toy company) does 1/2 of their sales in the last quarter of the year, and about 75%
of that is done in the week before xmas

Mecha Fury : I managed to miss the first bit

countersinkDG : so we have to balance keeping focus on the current year and preparing for the next year

AnthroHedgehog : Does Lego have any specific reasons for the lack of a movie in 2006? The movies were a very
defined source of fanbase in 2003-2005.

Mark of MoD : Jake, how about moving away from a print catalog? Do these mom and pops in Germany have Internet access?
You could set up a secure server and cut time off compared to print.

carbunicle : watermarking could be done, too

flyingice77 : AH: Because the second movie was totally awful. 😉

countersinkDG : there’s certainly discsussions along that line, Mark. But no, internet access isn’t prevelant, or at least as much in
Europe

Mecha Fury : Just in case, are there any groundrules for this conversation?

Roger CT BZ : very true.

Mecha Fury : Since I just poped in

Mark of MoD : Rule #1: Don’t just pop in.

Mecha Fury :

AnthroHedgehog : Regardless of how well they were, the movies brought many fans truly into Bionicle, and created a
whole subdivision of fan

flyingice77 : Or pope in.

AnthroHedgehog : XD

countersinkDG : and keep in mind that this is as much to “sell” the toy shops as it is to simply share info – we’re trying to inform
them of the new line, but also trying to to get them excited about placing orderes

CycloneKestrel : The lack of a new movie is due to the fact that the second sold worse than the first – the company felt they were
being taken for granted and that excitement was low.

flyingice77 : The lack of a new movie is due to the fact that the second sold worse than the first For good reason.

carbunicle : what bad effects for LEGO are caused by the leaks?

AnthroHedgehog : Recently, a cover for Bionicle Legends 3 has appeared online. Can you tell us why the covers are
appearing(atleast in the case of BL3, NOT 1/2) so early?

Mark of MoD : The Scholastic books …

AnthroHedgehog : The cover depicted a new Kanohi mask(very similar to a Kraahkan), so I assume it was not a
place holder.

CycloneKestrel : Flyingice, that is a matter of personal opinion. Many would disagree.

countersinkDG : Anthro – I wish I could – there are WAY too many leaks happening

ScottHetfield109 : no kidding

flyingice77 : Flyingice, that is a matter of personal opinion. Many would disagree. Naturally.

AnthroHedgehog : Yes, I think that Lego should take some precautions to these Leaks.

Mecha Fury : Any idea how these leaks happen?

Mark of MoD : Scholastic does not understand the timing of BIONICLE. They just want to sell their books.

AnthroHedgehog : Good point Mark

AnthroHedgehog : Mecha:we just actually got through discussing that

countersinkDG : it’s hard to track down leaks because the people leaking are either not doing it on purpose, or are workign hard to
hide it – hard to find the leaks in those cases

countersinkDG : Anthro – we’re (and me included) are working very hard to plug the holes… MUCH easier said than done 🙂

Mecha Fury : I talked to someone who had Web Of Shadows that he got through google chat

AnthroHedgehog : Mr.McKee, do you know what happened to the ProtoSquad? It was a very good system, untill it
slowly dissapeared.

flyingice77 : Google is wonderful.

Mecha Fury : Mark could you email me the chat room stuff once things are done?

flyingice77 : Hey, I forgot about the Protosquad.

Mark of MoD : Jake, you may or may not know, but isn’t BIONICLE the most time-critical product line LEGO has ever had, by
far?

countersinkDG : Mr. who?? 🙂 I’m just Jake 🙂

AnthroHedgehog : XD

AnthroHedgehog : I have too much respect in me

countersinkDG : no, not sure on the protosquad

CrosswiredPsycho has entered the room.

AnthroHedgehog : Ok

countersinkDG : time critical?

AnthroHedgehog : Isn’t someone keeping track of all that is going on? To post on MoD?

Mark of MoD : Yes. The story has a deadline every year.

countersinkDG : ah, gotcha. Yeah, it certainly is

flyingice77 has left the room.

countersinkDG : in fact, it’s really one of the only lines that is “based” on the story

AnthroHedgehog : In the past few years, Bionicle has really expanded:novels, movies, video games, can you drop a
hint as to what is to come next?(even the very slightest of hints as in “something big” or “something unexpected”)

AnthroHedgehog : Or is that really not your field

countersinkDG : sorry really can’t – i get in big trouble when I start leaking stuff myself 🙂

Mark of MoD : Moving on … At BrickLink, you told us about “the Jake test.” Tell us a little bit about that, and then I have a
follow-up question.

AnthroHedgehog : Jake test?

countersinkDG : remind me the context?

AnthroHedgehog : Interesting

Mark of MoD : Getting run over by a bus.

countersinkDG : ah yes!

Greenman241 has entered the room.

AnthroHedgehog : o.O

countersinkDG : (It’s Friday night after a very long week :-))

AnthroHedgehog : Run over by a bus!? XD

countersinkDG : so the Jake Bus Test –

Greenman241: G-Unit!

AnthroHedgehog : Uh……….ToN

AnthroHedgehog : A bit uncalled for

AnthroHedgehog : This is very serious right now

Greenman241: lol

AnthroHedgehog : No really

countersinkDG : It’s really important to me that my efforts in helping and connecting AFOLs don’t reside only with me

AnthroHedgehog : AFOLs?

Greenman241 has left the room.

Mecha Fury : Adult fans of lego

countersinkDG : i want to ensure that if I ever get hit by a bus (a concept from my Web IT days), the efforts keep moving foward –
that they don’t stop with me

AnthroHedgehog : oddly specific

AnthroHedgehog : Is there any specific reason it is “hit by a bus”?

countersinkDG : not only does this ensure longevity, it also ensure that the concepts and ideas spread throughout the company as
well

countersinkDG : no idea – that’s just what the IT folks used to say 🙂

AnthroHedgehog : Oh, ok.

AnthroHedgehog : There have been many suggestions throughout the history of Bionicle on a television program.
Has Lego actually considered this seriously(at one time or another)?

Mecha Fury : have you already covered the question “How do you go about designing the next years line and story, and how much
of it is influenced by what the fans want to see?”

Mark of MoD : The alternative outcome was getting promoted, and that is my follow-up question. Web-community guy is such a
unique position. Just where is up for Jake McKee.

Mark of MoD : ?

countersinkDG : heh, yeah, that too 🙂

countersinkDG : where is up – good question – there’s not a specific position i have my eyes on, but there’s also a lot of additional
projects that I’m involved now that touch community

AnthroHedgehog : Is there a set ending time to this chat?

countersinkDG : things like the LEGO Train Factory, LEGO Factory, and some other stuff

Mark of MoD : We’ll be letting Jake go at 10 PM EDT.

carbunicle : so soon!

AnthroHedgehog : Oh, so in a few minutes?

AnthroHedgehog : (like 3)

Mark of MoD : Jake, I know you are a big train enthusiast. Anything you would like to tell us about trains before we let you go?

AnthroHedgehog : Oh, and what advice do you have for someone hoping to get a job in your field of work?

countersinkDG : trains – trains are tons of fun 🙂

Roger CT BZ : Ooh, one question: – I’m a Bionicle collector (no shock there), and as such, aim to have as complete a
collection as possibly, specifically focusing on masks/krana etc.

Roger CT BZ : Recently, a large number of the so-called “Misprint” Kanohi, showed up on Bricklink

Roger CT BZ : from a German seller, presumable from PAB at LL Germany

countersinkDG : advice – the one thing that I think people under-estimate is the ability to communicate – both verbally and written.
Get really really good at talking and explaining and sharing 🙂

Mark of MoD : How many people think a BIONICLE train would be the ultimate in cool!?

AnthroHedgehog : Ok

countersinkDG : heh – that would be cool 🙂

carbunicle : I do! I do!

ScottHetfield109 : that would work

Mecha Fury : Oh, question on Lego factory, I was told it would branch into bionicle parts, but what kind of variety of parts, could
we perhaps do a toa kit?

CrosswiredPsycho : maybe if it were a playset type thing

AnthroHedgehog : I do(although I’m a bit out of the train loving stage)

requiaRusso: Haha, that would be interesting.

countersinkDG : Mecha – there’s no specific plans – we’ve talked about all kinds of ideas for future expansion

AnthroHedgehog : Yes, a Toa Kit would be amazing

Mark of MoD : Has the launch of LEGO Factory been successful so far?

countersinkDG : we’re really working hard to get the foundation LEGO Factory working well first, then moving into any number of
possible directions

CycloneKestrel : (Matoran kits! Desirable and story-relevant!)

requiaRusso has left the room.

Dart a Larsen : XD

AnthroHedgehog : Yes definately

AnthroHedgehog : Matoran kits are a must

carbunicle : If Factory could evolve to real just-in-time set production, that would be an amazing coup for LEGO

Mecha Fury : ive always seen stuff others made thatI so badly wanted to make myself, I thiink it would be great to share our MoCs
this way

Mark of MoD : Roger CT, did you finish your question?

Roger CT BZ : Ok, i cant fit enough in the text box to type my question and explain fully.

Roger CT BZ : lol

planet eatero has entered the room.

AnthroHedgehog : Split it up into parts

Roger CT BZ : basically, its to do with LEGO releasing large numbers of previously rare items on to the market

ScottHetfield109 : no time

AnthroHedgehog : Interesting

countersinkDG : carbunicle – exactly! that’s the vision. How long and if we can make it is the question, but that’s what we’re
working towards

Roger CT BZ : lowering the cost, and runining investments

Mark of MoD : You want to know where the misprints came from?

AnthroHedgehog : I like the way this question is going.

JoeCool4590 has entered the room.

AnthroHedgehog : Oh, Biomath/PE, I didn’t know you were here!

Mark of MoD : I don’t think the “rare” BIONICLE market has collapsed because of increased supply. Demand is way down.

planet eatero : Hi

Roger CT BZ : Nope, i’d just like to know that all the effort I put into my full VMKK set isnt going to be worthless down
the line when you can get 20 for a buck at legoland billund/germany.

Mecha Fury : Well I had fun finding my rares

Roger CT BZ : demand is down, yes, but $7 per ruru, with 20 of each in stock?

carbunicle : that’s the terrible thrill of collecting with an eye to profit

countersinkDG : well, that’s really a larger discussion about collections, profit, and the goals of collecting

Mecha Fury : All that work to buy one, and then win my second and third vahi

Mark of MoD : The VMKK are very different from the misprints in that the misprints were manufactured in large numbers and
actually sold at retail.

countersinkDG : you say worthless, but is that because you can’t resell it or that it because less valuable to you?

Roger CT BZ : true

Mecha Fury : And then at brickfest I find a bag with forty vahi amongst other masks for forty bucks

Mark of MoD : Also, the LEGO Group is a toy company, not a collectibles company.

Roger CT BZ : well, when I say worthless, I mean I paid for the Misprints at market value, back when they were worth
about $15- $20 each

AnthroHedgehog : I like what they did with the Vahi. Released it publicly, without lowering the demand/price of the
original

CrosswiredPsycho : yes, I sold and traded off most of my misprints becuase the price was lowering

Mark of MoD : (By changing the mold and color)

Roger CT BZ : and directly because of a new release, the price of a previously discontinued item, lowered

JoeCool4590 has left the room.

carbunicle : who wants google stock?!

AnthroHedgehog : ?

planet eatero : me

CrosswiredPsycho : if you take a chance at collecting, it’s kinda like demand in stocks. it might lose it’s value you. If you try to
make profit you almost have to deal with loss of value and luck

Mecha Fury : Whats google stock’?>

Roger CT BZ : Im not looking to sell my collection any time soon, if ever, but its disheartening to think that everything I
work for has its value reduced, wether i’m selling or not.

AnthroHedgehog : Jake, you(unlike Greg, I think) are(I think) allowed to read fanfics…as it doesn’t intefere with your
actual job. Do you actually read any fan stories?

Mark of MoD : I’m going to go ahead and say “Thank You!” to Jake for joining us this evening. He may stay around for a few more
minutes, but I wanted to be certain to thank him.

countersinkDG : no problem! happy to be here, thanks for the invite 🙂

CycloneKestrel : Thanks, Jake!

countersinkDG : i’ve got time for a question or two, then need to run pay attention the wife 🙂

isipt4 : I second that remark. Thank you!

planet eatero : ty

AnthroHedgehog : Thank you, Jake

Mecha Fury : Yup thanks for coming,

AnthroHedgehog : This has been quite fun

THE Eiken : Yeah, thanks for doing this Jake.

Roger CT BZ : Thanks Jake 🙂

AnthroHedgehog : I look forward to the next Lego chat

AnthroHedgehog : (they rock)

Dart a Larsen : Thank you!

AnthroHedgehog : This got me a lot more “in” to Bionicle

AnthroHedgehog : As I was slipping away for a time

Roger CT BZ : It’s nice to have a company directly communicate with fans. I bet Hasbro collectors don’t get that 😛
*cough*

AnthroHedgehog : XD

isipt4 : no we dont

isipt4 : 😛

countersinkDG: heh – yeah, and just a reminder – you can keep up with me at www.bricksonthebrain.com/blog

Mecha Fury : Boo banfai!!!

Mecha Fury : Bandai*

AnthroHedgehog : No, not boo bandai!

AnthroHedgehog : They make Teen Titans(w00t) toys

Mecha Fury : Im kinda joking there,

AnthroHedgehog : But back on the subject

Mecha Fury : they ripped me off and left me with a defective product

countersinkDG : ok, last question – anyone….anyone…. 🙂

Mark of MoD : Jake, how about a ranking of the LEGO community population by theme? (#1 – BIONICLE, etc.)

Mecha Fury : Moo?

countersinkDG : heh – good question – first a bit of background …

WillUStopAsking has entered the room.

WillUStopAsking : whoa

Mecha Fury : Ywea alot o people

WillUStopAsking : that’s a lot of people

AnthroHedgehog : Will, your quite a bit late,

AnthroHedgehog : But your in time for the last question XD

Mecha Fury : lol

WillUStopAsking : it doesn’t matter

countersinkDG : there’s two groups of fans we talk about: “Actives” – those folks are able to be counted – people who have signed
up for sites, post online, write articles etc.

Mecha Fury : I was late too, and Im an administrator here

WillUStopAsking : lol

AnthroHedgehog : Not that late

countersinkDG : and “Sleepers” – people who are fans, but not yet doing active things.. haven’t yet joined the community

Mecha Fury : Oh um…off topoic Im sorry

WillUStopAsking : mhm

AnthroHedgehog : Yeah, let’s get back on topic wit hthe question

WillUStopAsking : I guess I’m part of both

Mecha Fury : Dun Dun dun! The FINAL question

countersinkDG : nearly impossible to count sleepers, but with the actives, i’d say that Bionicle probably has the largest numbers.
Star Wars has a close second if they’re not first .. lots and lots of SW fans who also dig LEGO

Mecha Fury : Is that your final answer?

countersinkDG : but who knows really… there’s lots of people in all of these communities

countersinkDG : it’s hard to know for sure because I don’t have access to user stats of all the various sites and whatnot

countersinkDG : (as you can tell, i’ve thought about this before!:-))

ScottHetfield109 : heh

CrosswiredPsycho : actives and sleeprs, that’s intersting, does lego ever consider the sleepers or just cator to the actives?

Mecha Fury : (we can)

AnthroHedgehog : Are you going to mention this chat in your blog?

Mark of MoD : Thanks again Jake!

Mecha Fury : (…Moo.)

WillUStopAsking : thanks, i guess

Azibo : thanx

AnthroHedgehog : Bye

carbunicle : Thanks Jake

countersinkDG : no problem! Talk to y’all later!

Roger CT BZ : Ack. I must rush. Its 3:13 AM here, and I can tell i’m going to get busted soon. Thanks Jake.

AnthroHedgehog : Thanks for coming

Mecha Fury : Bye!

planet eatero : cya

Roger CT BZ : bye!

Azibo : later

THE Eiken : Bye Jake,thanks.

planet eatero : ty
