Currently, I know of ten clues to the “Search For The SEVENTH TOA Sweepstakes”. One clue is on BIONICLE.com, eight clues are on SCHOLASTIC.com and in The Official Guide To BIONICLE™ , and one clue is in Issue #13 of the BIONICLE comic. Since there are only ten places where the SEVENTH TOA can be, ten clues would appear to be more than enough, and in fact there is some overlap among the clues.
My biggest question had to do with Kini Nui and the first (and so far only) clue from BIONICLE.com: “The Seventh Toa’s far from fire and ice.” Kini Nui’s location is still somewhat shrouded in mystery, but on most maps it sits between Ko-Wahi and Ta-Wahi, nestled up against the Mangai volcano. Could it possibly be considered “far from fire and ice”?
The clues from The Guide and on Scholastic.com also gave me pause. Are “Abandoned Caves” the same as “dark caverns”? Is all of Onu-Koro considered underground?
Well, not only did Greg Farshtey write The Official Guide To BIONICLE™ , he also wrote the clues contained within it. So I posed my questions to him.
Not too surprisingly, yes “Abandoned Caves” and “dark caverns” are the same thing. And yes, all of Onu-Koro is underground. The surprise? Kini Nui is considered to be “far from fire and ice”.
Now, onto the “second” sweepstakes. As anyone who has read the Official Rules knows, there are two concurrent “Search For The SEVENTH TOA Sweepstakes” going on and they share their Grand Prize. MoD reader Melinda notes that the number of prizes listed on Scholastic.com and in The Guide differs from that listed on BIONICLE.com. BIONICLE.com offers 100 Second Prizes and 1000 Third Prizes, whereas Scholastic.com offers 50 Second Prizes and 500 Third Prizes. What is more, the Scholastic entry form has a separate code and goes to a separate PO Box. I don’t have verification yet, but Scholastic.com and BIONICLE.com appear to be the two different “Search For The SEVENTH TOA Sweepstakes” contests.
Update: Greg Farshtey confirms that yes, the Scholastic.com and BIONICLE.com are two separate versions of the “SST contest”. And the Official Rules on Scholastic.com could not make it any clearer than this: “Two versions of this promotion are running simultaneously. The second version of the “Search for the Seventh Toa” Sweepstakes can be found at www.BIONICLE.com.”
