If you do a google search for BIONICLE® 2016 , you will see a number of interesting images.
From what I can see, the new sets are focused around the Toa’s hunt for elemental Rahi, animals that will increase their elemental power. Each rahi can attach to a Toa’s back kind of like the Phantoka Matoran could, and add a winged look to it’s Toa counterpart.
There are six Toa, and six elemental birds (though one is technically a fish for Gali to find?), each sold individually. The Rahi each come packed with something reminiscent of a bear trap, and are smaller sets for next year. 3 Toa come as medium sized sets (Gali, Lewa and pohatu) while Onua and Tahu are deluxe characters once more. Kopaka looks a little stripped down, so I’m not sure where he falls. I also see pictures of an “Umarak the Hunter”, who I suspect is the one behind the bear traps seen with the Rahi.
The Toa featured in these images have a number of changes, I presume they rescued the Mask Maker and were well rewarded? The construction I see indicates either a new mechanism, or a lack of one in favor of articulation. It could be that they added more variation to the new toa, similar to how each Skull Warrior had a unique attack. Of particular interest to me are the armor pieces that attach to technic beams rather than ball joints on the skeleton pieces. Most of the armor is still CCBS, but I’m glad to see some new armor that doesn’t have to attach directly to the overused CCBS plates.
Some of the other little details I’ve seen are mentions of a mask of Unity, as well as pictures of a wearable version of Makuta’s Mask Of Control. I’ve seen bits of instructions that suggest at least one character has Rahkshi/vahki-like arm swinging attacks, thought with the gear to swing the arms located on the character’s, well, buttocks . I guess thats not so odd if the rahi attach to their backs, that way they wouldn’t get in the way of the gearing. Tahu’s swords have a mini mechanism, if you look closely they aren’t solidly affixed in their position, so the sword can retract or extend it’s second blade.
Something I find very curious, I also see images of a character called Taka, who is clearly modeled after Takanuva. He seems to be accompanied by some sort of reincarnation of the Bohrok sets, though they lack the iconic charm. One picture I saw did show a Krana like thing in it’s head, revamped to fit the new toa heads of course. They look different and out of place enough that I’m half convinced they’re fake. They can’t be January 2016 sets either given the pricing patterns, so they’d have to be this years summer sets. Of course, if they are real, this is very early to be seeing them, so they probably have a few changes in the works.
