Market Watch: Japanese Toa & More

A few interesting items came up in my hunt today, in particular these items from Japan. I’m mostly noting them for being something you don’t see often, and not because I think they are a good deal. I’ll leave that up to the buyer to research.

First we have this listing for a complete set of Pre-owned Toa. What makes them interesting is the extra packaging these Toa came in, with Japanese marking. Two unique cardboard containers hold 3 toa each. Besides the Japanese text on the cardboard, it also has English words and numbers written in matoran font. “TOA NUVT 3 IN PACK”, and the respective toa set numbers are written on one side, with an alphabetical and numerical cypher printed on another side. I’m not sure how practical this is, because it presumes the Japanese buyer also knows English.

Here we have a Japanese 4 pack of Turaga polybags that come with a keychain. The polybags themselves were each originally sealed in a unique cardboard box with Japanese markings. The seller notes the carboard boxes were opened, as well as the tub they all came in, which itself looks like an interesting collectible. The Polybags themselves were not opened.

This Matoran storage box is not from Japan but it is considerably more affordable. Unfortunately it’s not as interesting to see. I believe it was used to ship pre-assembled McToran figures to McDonalds for use in their acrylic toy display cases. There may not be many of them around, if you think about how many McDonalds stores were around at the time and run the odds of how likely these were to be thrown out. Unfortunately they don’t have any figures in them, but the box is listed for only 40 bucks, maybe less if you try for a “best offer”.

Now for a couple items that appear to have notable prices:

Here’s a listing for a pre-owned LEGO BIONICLE Ultimate Creature Accessory Set 6638. At $159.99, its well over it’s MSRP (I think it was 19.99 and I may have stockpiled these when I found them for 5 bucks). Compared to the current average of 599.99 USD for an unopened tub, it’s a steal if you were only going to open it anyway. The seller has even thrown in an extra 300 pieces!

If your looking for a pre-owned set of Tarakava, this seller in the USA is asking $99.99, although you can also make an offer. It’s already looking about 10 bucks cheaper after shipping than the next closest Tarakava in price. The seller notes it is missing the rubber bands.
