Gonel brought it to our attention that this Mata Nui GSR set on LEGO Ideas is less than 2,000 supporters away from receiving an official review! Something like this Mata Nui is what I had personally hoped for back when they announced the fan vote, perhaps we can still make it happen?
Despite claiming that one winner would be picked to represent the 90th anniversary, The LEGO Group surprised us with both a Galaxy Explorer and Lion Knights Castle. BIONICLE, in the meantime, has been relegated to a mere brick built figure with fewer points of articulation than a LEGO minifigure, despite taking home first place in the preliminary vote. I will admit I am surprised by how much the community has embraced this Tahu incarnation, but I personally find it a little lacking.
I can’t help but hold onto hope that they might have another surprise in mind for the BIONICLE community, and I suspected The LEGO Group might have planned to release the top three sets all along, however I think we are out of luck on that front. I can’t imagine they would announce two sets at once, and then a third later.
Even if this Mata Nui gets enough support, it’s not guaranteed that it will make it through the review process. In that case, there is still an option for a different version of Mata Nui we can build now thanks to Nicolas Vás and his unofficial fan project. You need only to get your hands on one of these and you have all the parts to build it from a single official LEGO set. Personally I’d rather have the “Mata Nui Rises” set posed on a shelf, however this makes for a formidable tribute on it’s own.
There are plenty of other BIONICLE projects on LEGO Ideas too. Though they do not have nearly as much support at this time, these are some of my favorites:

Someone on the ideas page (I think it was you actually) made a good point that the LEGO Group has been splitting their releases to twice a year, and we might yet still get a new Pirates and BIONICLE set announcement later. Ultimately, I hope we get a Mata Nui GSR set, although if we get both.
I might have time to do one for “Toa Tahu Awakens” later.
