MOC: 8557 Power Loader

This MOC is by Reynaldo Mercado

A powered exoskeleton mass-produced for use in factories and transport ships, intended for moving crates and heavy pieces of equipment, its raw power also makes it a viable combat mech. An exo-toa based on the power loader from Aliens. Made for the preliminary round of Biocup 2020

If you’ve kept up with the MOCs we’ve featured, Its no secret I love exosuits, and Reynaldo Mercado’s 8557 Power Loader hits most of the marks I look for first when hunting for a MOC to post. It’s fully articulated, has play features, and isn’t so overly complicated that you can’t learn from it.

If I were to offer constructive criticism, I would have used a gear rack to make the clamps slide in and out parallel to eachother with the turn of a knob rather than manual positioning, and throw in a worm gear to lock them in position. I would also reinforce the rotating wrists the clamps sit on, to give it more stability when holding equipment or suplexing alien xenomorphs.

You can see more of of Reynaldo Mercado’s 8557 Power Loader here on flickr. Unfortunately this was his only MOC uploaded to flickr, and I could not locate him on BZP or other social media sites.
