MOC: Baterra Mk 2

This is a creation by Antak3000

An advanced version of the Baterra robot, the Mk 2 has increased durability, speed, and cognitive ability. The design is vastly superior to the original Baterra, but the high cost coupled with scarce material left these machines on the drawing board during the core wars. Velika has built a pair of them to act as body guards and assassins.

Antak3000‘s Baterra Mk 2 MOC is inspired by the assassins created by the Great Beings. Although there is artwork of these machines, they aren’t depicted much like a Bohrok, though are described as being about the height of Bohrok in their natural form. If you read up on Bohrok specifically though, they are described as being based on the Baterra. I love how these story facts play into the design of the Mk 2, with this iteration looking like something the Bohrok could actually have evolved out of.

I heard rumors of Bohrok making an appearance in G2 from the BIONICLE community, though I don’t know if there was any truth to this. Had they looked anything like this, I would have been happy to buy the whole set of them. The color-scheme and construction are both beautiful, and I love the old hockey helmets being used for the shoulders. Antak3000 even worked in the classic Bohrok mechanism, so the Baterra’s head can snap forward with the push of a lever.

I find myself at a loss for any constructive criticism, the only thing I could suggest is that it might look good in the original Baterra colorscheme. Between this being a MOC of a newer iteration, and that Bohrok came in several colors, it still fits that this MOC could be mostly orange.

I’d like to encourage readers to visit Antak3000’s DeviantArt page to check out the rest of the pictures and the updated Baterra Mk 2 design with “shapeshifting” accessories. There is no dedicated gallery for this creation, but this search link should show you the complete design. Be sure to heck out his other creations too, Antak3000 has plenty of original designs in this building style, as well as revamps and recolors of official sets.
