MOC: BIONICLE Samurai Armor

This is a creation by Taohe Netrus

Taohe Netrus made this creation for 810NICLE Day last year, and with the holiday returning in just 10 days, I wanted to feature a MOC or two from last year’s celebrations. I’ve seen tank treads used for armor plating before, though I like the way Taohe used the Hero Factory mech suit cockpits to shape the shoulder plating and give it that perfect curved shape rather than just draping it over the shoulder and calling it a day. The MOC doesn’t rely on overly complex construction, instead it focuses on creative use of parts and makes for a great creation to learn a few tricks from.

If I were to offer constructive criticism, the face looks a bit tiny under that big helmet. I think it might have benefitted from either a BIONICLE mask worn under it or some kind of jaw covering that resembles traditional samurai faceplates. I think the orange Vahi mask would be the right color and size to fit without much more than a head swap, although the helmet looks wide enough that it might accommodate a custom built faceplate using teeth/claw parts to make something a touch more like the demon/oni themed Men-yoroi.

You can see more of Taohe Netrus‘ creations here on youtube, the majority of which are short videos of the creation on a spinning platform like the one featured above. This simple format allows you to get a good look at the creations and pause the video to check out all the construction techniques. He also produces some BIONICLE news videos in Polish for those who can understand the language, but can respond to English speakers on his social media.

You can also find him on Facebook and DeviantArt.
