MOC: Combat Droid C-41 “Cardinal”

This MOC by Duncan Lindbo is entitled Combat Droid C-41 “Cardinal”.

I’ve had the privilege of meeting Duncan and seeing his creations in person through the NCLUG and local events like LEGO Palooza and BrickUniverse. He has what I would consider a mastery of part use, especially when it comes to combining parts from various systems like Technic and BIONICLE with more classic LEGO bricks.

His creations often include building techniques that are as much functional as they are decorative, and draw inspiration from sources ranging from Mecha and LEGO Space to Gunpla and Warhammer 40,000.

His C-41 combat droid is one of his smaller and more lightweight creations, but it’s also a great example of his work and easier design to understand without lacking in complexity.

In Duncan’s words:

This MOC grew out of a tablescrap that would eventually become the head of this droid. The Star Wars shin shells don’t come in many colors, which sort of limited my options in terms of color scheme, but it ended up working well and gave me an opportunity to use some other cool CCBS parts.

I sort of imagined this droid as an elite but aged bodyguard unit. It has a slightly retro feel, what with the energy “buckler” and spear/glaive and the skeletal figure.
