MOC: Sisters of the Skrall

Lees_L took inspiration from theunderscoreddoubles‘s Sister of the Skrall MOC to make his own version of the robed female Skrall outcasts. His video demonstration of the MOC and it’s construction even makes use of some video editing, giving Lee the appearance that he too has their mental powers.

Lees_L‘s design shows off a great technique for anyone trying to learn how to use the cloth part from the Chirrut Îmwe set. Seeing the underlying skeleton of the MOC even gives you a great idea of the dimensions your own MOC will need to be to fit inside it. The MOC by theunderscoreddoubles that inspired Lees_L‘s design is likewise impressive, however it doesn’t give you much of an idea of how to accomplish such a result.

As far as criticism goes, the Sisters of the Skrall are described as having faded purple or dark brown robes, according to BS01. You can’t really fault the builder when there are no faded purple cloth parts, and the closest thing to dark brown is either the black Darth Vader cape or the tan shawl on the buildable Rey figure. Even the Rey figure doesn’t give you much cloth to work with. However, the red and black looks great, and I’m sure the sisters themselves would agree.

If I were to approach the design, I would probably combine an all black cape from Darth Vader with the cloth parts from Rey. I would wrap the thinner tan parts around the head to create a hood and fold the rest under the cape, which itself would be folded over the body to form the robe. I’d then try to pull any excess tan strips out of the black inner robe to create the look of a tattered inner lining.
