If Brick Brickolson’s Gahdok and Cahdok don’t look familiar, then you probably haven’t seen this post on the Faber Files blog. While the Bohrok Queens were still in development, Faber made a stand-in design depicting the Bahrag as spider-like creatures that carried a few rolled-up Bohrok on their backs. After seeing this MOC, I feel like it’s a shame they didn’t run with Faber’s idea.
Brick Brickolson (who currently goes by N on our Discord server) took some of his own liberties with Faber’s design, most notably these Bahrag hold a single Bohrok each, while 5 each are visible on the source material. Although the underlying frame uses some newer technic pieces, he did an admirable job using primarily period correct parts.
In addition to carrying a Bohrok, they each have a hidden cannon on their bellies, and a compartment to store (or birth?) a krana or two. While these may be a little simple in comparison to the lunging bite attack of the originals, I feel like they fit the part much better. Had these been sitting on the shelf in place of the original Bahrag Queens, they would would have fit right in.
There are a few points on the legs that I think could have been made sturdier, although I wont argue they look nice and spindly for spidery legs. Other than that, I can’t think of anything to improve them other than to say “make them more like the Faber diagram”. By the time you did that though, they would be an entirely new MOC. The fact that I would happily buy these back in 2002 is proof enough that they don’t really need to be improved.
Be sure to check out Brick Brickolson’s creations here on flickr. While these bahrag are excellent, they do not seem to represent his typical style. He is also uncommonly good with the newer CCBS pieces.
