These MOCs are by SomeoneKiri
SomeoneKiri has been working on these Toa Mata revamps for a while, and recently posted the finished team on our Discord server. I particularly like their take on the Mata Foot torso, I’ve seen other versions of this idea, but they didnt look quite as good. Although the axle connectors making up the shoulders look flimsy, they actually work surprisingly well structurally. SomeoneKiri has built this design outside of Stud.io (the parts that aren’t custom pieces at least) and it rests nicely across the heel of the foot part. The technic pin/stud piece filling in the hole also doubles as some extra weight support if the arm is pulled down too much, and can be further modified to prevent more flex if needed.
As far as constructive criticism goes, I can’t help but want to attach the shoulder axle connectors a little more solidly to the torso. Doing so would probably bulk up the character unnecessarily though, even if I hide it from the back. The custom pieces making up the arms and legs are also not readily available, and require a license purchase and bit of work with a 3D printer to build the exact MOC outside of Stud.io. The torso design is the best part of this creation however, and anyone looking to replicate the MOC shouldn’t have much trouble coming up with suitable limbs based on authentic parts. To SomeoneKiri’s credit, they actually designed these custom parts, which took a lot of work in itself.
If you want to see more of SomeoneKiri’s work, you can keep up with them on Twitter. You can also support their MOC projects and custom part designs too, via a shop on Gumroad where you can buy a license to the digital parts seen in these creations. A pretty cool looking Nuva chestplate is available for free too.
