MOC: Toa Onepu

This is a creation by RealRed

Toa Onepu grinds gemstones into potions that heal and energize his fellow toa. He has to work twice as hard to make his name under the shadow of the mythical Voriki

I love the design and story behind RealRed’s Toa Onepu, a character built as part of their own BIONICLE fan continuity. The various pieces of equipment clipped onto Onepu’s limbs adds to an already cool design, and even gives him some nice playability as the character examines gems and grinds them up for a potion. Toa typically look ready for battle, so one who looks like he has other skills than swinging a sword is a welcome addition in my opinion. It makes me wish the official toa sets had additional equipment related to their hobbies rather than combat abilities.

As for constructive criticism goes, it would have been nice to see just a touch more purple in the legs, and maybe a gear activated play feature on the cutting tool. Purple is one of the hardest colors for The LEGO Group to produce, so it is understandable that RealRed had some limitations with the color’s availability. All things considered, I like how RealRed maximized the purple in the design by using two different shades, distributed strategically so the two shades don’t clash.

RealRed tells me their social media is a bit outdated at the moment, though you can see more of their creations (and those of many other talented builders) in the MOC section of our Discord server. They have mostly built Toa sized MOCs lately, often combining a custom technic skeleton with CCBS armor.

Edit: Oops, I wrote Nuparu instead of Onepu in the excerpt box that shows up when sharing the link.
