The Rotorocktus has long been a subject of controversy among the citizens of Miraka Nui. Rahi have usually walked, flown, or rolled along treads, with many sub breeds that have developed with roughly the same transport mechanisms. Before the Rotorocktus was discovered, wheels were considered a taboo thing on their own, considered unnatural to their world. If wheels were actually efficient, why hadn’t they seen anything use them for transportation before? You can imagine their surprise when they stumbled onto an entire herd of Rotorocktus in the Po Wahi region.
As a result, the Rotorocktus was viewed as some kind of creature spawned by the Makuta, and were generally avoided. It didn’t help that they were territorial creatures, lobbing rocks at nearby threats, and even tossing smaller creatures out of the proximity of their nests (though too their credit, usually into a pool of water.)
A few daring Matoran set out to learn more about them, and discovered they were highly intelligent. They attempted approaching the edges of their nests and leaving food for the parents to take to their newly hatched offspring. After a while the Rotorocktus had started welcoming them within the herd. To their surprise, the creatures would observe them, and even attempt to lend assistance with moving large boulders out of the way. It wasn’t long after that a few curious Rotorocktus started following them home, and eventually joined the population’s work force in a symbiotic relationship.
