From Myths and Legacy, we hope you are enjoying your holiday season. This week we have something a little different in store.
In this last week of 2022, we don’t have a site update, but we do have something we expect fans of M&L will enjoy. Anyone who’s ever experienced the Mask of Light story in both book and movie format will know that major differences exist between the two mediums. But do you know just how different they are?
This Sunday marks the twentieth anniversary of the 2003 story, and in honor of the upcoming New Year, M&L wanted to reveal a small project it’s been working on. There exist many differences between the various BIONICLE movie novelizations, which were based on early versions of the scripts, and the movies themselves, which had gone through much revision in production.
Now, to understand just what differences exist between these versions, M&L has taken the novel version and added novelizations of scenes missing from the book version, as well as highlighting material that the movie removed. Later in the upcoming year we hope to do the same treatment for the other movies and their novelizations.
The fruits of our labors can be found in the pdf below, based on the digital edition of Mask of Light found on our sister site, Wall of History. We hope you enjoy the breakdown, and we look forward to seeing you again in the new year.
Font colors are to be understood as follows:
- Red = Line from the book, perhaps representing a sequence in the original script
- Green = Addition made for the movie
- Orange = A scene or line that was moved to a new spot
- Purple = The new spot for a scene or line that was moved
