The LEGO Company reported today a record loss of DKK 1.4 billion (about $240 million) pre-tax for the year 2003, due in part to a global decline in sales of 25% compared to 2002. Much of the loss is due to a standstill in the world toy markets, but more worrisome is a loss of market share in key markets. The immediate response by the company was to cut 5 top management positions and focus on “the brick.” Sales of “Make & Create” doubled in 2003.
