Have I mentioned that I don’t like the orange/grey color scheme? It’s not as bad with this one, since there’s more red than orange, but it could still be better.
Contrary to what some people think, this is not the same bug that we saw in the MNOLG video of the NUI-RAMA hive. Both the HOTO and the “Electric Bug” can be seen in the first GBA game, and they look quite different when compared directly to each other.
As for this little character, it’s a freakishly cute design. True, it only has four legs, and they’re so far back that it has to lean on its chin, but everything just looks so cartoonish. As for the freakish part, well, those “bug eyes” are just plain weird looking. I mean, it’s nice to see the articulated eyes return, since the TARAKAVA NUI is the only other official models that uses them, but they look gigantic on this tiny little bug. The antennae also look like a somewhat rebellious spiked hair-do.
The coolest part of this design, though, is that the wings can be opened up so the HOTO can fly. It would be nice if they could fold up more snugly on the abdomon, but there are some things that just aren’t possible in such a compact design.
