I was getting ready to feed my pets when I realized that I hadn’t seen my Caecilian Worm all day. A frantic search of the tank failed to yield any sign of the 20″ grey tube. While it had managed to escape the tank three times before, it hadn’t done so in over three years, once I was able to track down every last opening that it could possibly fit through. That was when it was only 10″ long, and while all of those openings are still blocked off, the increase in length and muscle-mass was enough that it was able to pop the back of the glass lid out of the restraining clips and squeeze out. While amphibious, this species isn’t very suited to travelling on dry land, so it never gets very far, and it wasn’t very hard to find…but this time I was too late.
I have enjoyed the playful antics of this wonderful little creature for four years, so this turn of events has been a rather hard blow to me. As a result, I probably won’t be answering any more e-mail until late Friday at the earliest, and I will not be posting an update today.
